Onsen trip may be a winter activity. But visiting onsen city not in its season, when there are less crowd, gives more opportunity to admire and appreciate the history and beauty of the place.
Especially when it has a history dated back to hundred of years ago like this Shibu Yudanaka onsen area.
The sign board of one of the onsen ryokan here explained that this particular onsen ryokan was the model of the onsen realm that appeared in Ghibli anime, Miyazaki Hayao “Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi” (Spirited Away).
Such a special place, The Kanaguya onsen ryokan. I checked their website and the place looks enchanting especially in evening. Wish I could have the onsen experience here oneday while reminiscing one of the magical anime ever… Spirited away.
